Dennis R. “Gus” Franks age 75 of Toledo, Ohio passed away on December 17, 2024 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born in Genoa, OH on September 27, 1949 to Ray and Esther (Drewicz) Franks.
Gus was employed at Toledo Technology stamping plant for over 30 years. He lost his leg at the age of 18 and never let that affect his life; he was an avid wheelchair sportsman. Gus was most famous for his role with the Toledo Silver streaks basketball team traveling throughout the US and Canada. He also conquered softball, golf, fishing, dart ball, camping, hunting and white-water rafting.
Gus loved a good fire, cigars, playing “40” and the 4th of July. His pride and joy were his sons and the families they created. He did not know a stranger and would talk to anyone about anything. He belonged to many social clubs thru the years including club 16 Gun Club and 14th ward. He was a parishioner at St. Charles Catholic Church and believed in our Lord and savior.
Surviving is his wife, Karen Franks; children, Tony and Nick (Melissa) Franks; grandchildren, True Franks, Demi Russell and Delanie Franks; great-grandchildren, Sylas, Sailor and Ayla. Also surviving is his brother, Rodney (Tammy) Franks and sister-law, Karen Mackey Franks.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Newcomer Funeral Home (Southwest Chapel) is assisting the family with arrangements.
