We will always treasure the memory of our fascinating life with our beautiful, snazzy, jazzy, and smiling Mother! Delcia Irish, 89, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, March 9, 2014.
Her adult journey started in her early 20s, when she began work at Owens-Illinois, Huntington, WV, her home town. In 1947, she earned the "Miss Owens-Illinois" title. She lived in Huntington for 10 years and then moved to Cleveland, OH. After a two-year stay, she moved to Toledo to live near her family. As it turned out, moving to Toledo was a good decision for her. She worked at the well-known south Toledo restaurant, The Bungalow. While working there, she made many good friends. One friend in particular was Maj. Howard Irish, USAF, whom she later married.
Delcia loved to travel. In the early 70s, she and one of her good friends traveled to Venezuela. Mom talked often about that wonderful vacation.
After her retirement from the restaurant in 1975, Delcia moved to Florida to be with Howard. They were married a few years after she arrived. Delcia continued her love of traveling, this time aboard Howard's sailboat, "The Delcia." Together, they made many wonderful sailing trips, with one memorable trip to Cuba. While on land, Delcia and Howard rumbled along in Howard's motor home, taking the "scenic route" wherever they went across most of the USA and Canada.
Mom's other interests and activities included dancing, sewing, tennis, and golf. Delcia returned to Toledo in 2010 to live near her daughter and family.
Delcia was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and three sisters; former husbands, and husband, Maj. Howard Irish, USAF.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Linda Reipas (Allan), Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, Helen Rollyson Haddad (Larry), Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Nelson Reipas (Catherine), Oakville, Ontario, Canada, John Reipas (Tammy),
Hanmer, Ontario, Canada, Brittany Hymore (Daniele Vallot), Venice, Italy, Katherine Hymore (Chad Bolles), Perrysburg, OH, and Nolan Hymore, Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Anderson and Carrington Reipas, Sofia and Vincent Vallot, Zayda Vanco, Aria Longoria, and Cecelia Bolles. Delcia was a special aunt to her nieces, Nadine Nowak (Ted), Toledo, OH, Roberta Roswell, Ironton, OH, and to her nephews, Danny Stahl (Sandy), Toledo, OH, and Darrell Brumfield, Kissimmee, FL.
A very special "thank you" to the caring staff at The Glendale Assisted Living, for the wonderful care they provided for our Mom; the hospice nurses and staff of Senior Independence, and the nurses and staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for all the tender loving care during Mom's last days. Thanks to you, our family and friends, for your support during this hard time.
