Deacon Charles Samuel Costen Jr., 87, was born on May 10, 1932 in Pocomoke City, Maryland to Charles Samuel Costen Sr. and Bessie Long Daniel.
Deacon Costen transitioned to his heavenly home on April 23, 2020.
Deacon Charles S. Costen Jr. married Barbara A. Mincey on February 10, 1970.
Deacon Costen joined the Navy at 17 years old, and served for three years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring on May 31, 1978 after 23 years of service.
Deacon Costen relocated to Toledo in 1989, and became a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He took great pride in becoming ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of Bishop Duane C. Tisdale.
Deacon Costen was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother and his sister.
He leaves to cherish in loving memories his devoted wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Costen; sons, Reggie K. Costen of Charelston, S.C., Chive K. Costen of Toledo, OH and Tori V. Costen of Toledo, OH; daughters, Jennifer (Ben) Odom of Windsor Mills, MD, Bessie Fisher of Ansonia, CT, Felicia Costen-Simons (Ernie) of Queens, N.Y., and Selena Costen of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Robert Costen; and brother-in-law, James C. Long of Philadelphia, PA; 19 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
