David Lanning, 69, a retired financial analyst, died peacefully at Flower Hospital Tuesday July 26, 2011 from cancer, surrounded by his family. The son of Claren and Dolores Lanning, David was born Nov. 23, 1941. He attended St. Agnes grade school for eight years and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He then spent three years in the U.S. Army. David then went on to the University of Toledo, leaving with an associate degree in accounting. In 1970, he married Diane Michalak. David worked at Libbey Glass and then at Faurecia (AP Parts) for over 30 years, retiring in 2003.
David was a devoted and selfless family-man. His endless love for Diane is forever epitomized by being the first to arrive to the church on their wedding day. David was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter; they were his top priority. He also was an avid golfer. David was the quintessential handyman and his innate ability to work with numbers allowed him to excel at his profession.
Preceding him are his parents. Surviving him is his wife of 41 years, Diane; children Kevin (Dawn) Lanning of Toledo, Audra (Brian) Jadlocki of Toledo, and Nicole (Jonathan) Haas of Toledo; sister Mary Danyi of Toledo; Brother Joe (Mary) of Ruston, Louisiana; grandchildren Tegan (Scott) Everhardt, Kevin Lanning Jr., Torrie Jadlocki, Dakota Jadlocki, Reiss Lanning-Haas, and Phebe Lanning-Haas; and great-grandchild Sofya Everhardt.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., (419-473-0300). Funeral services will begin Saturday at noon at Grace Lutheran Church, 4441 Monroe St., Toledo, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
