David L. Smith, Sr.

David L. "Dave" Smith, Sr., age 72, of Grand Rapids, OH, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023. He was born on April 27, 1951 to Mack and Beverly (LaGasse) Smith Jr. in Rome, New York. Dave graduated in 1970 from Libbey High School. He worked at Banner Mattress Co. for 42 years before retiring. Dave was an avid fisherman and loved being on the boat. He enjoyed watching NASCAR mainly the old greats, Dale Sr. and Richard Petty. Dave had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. His smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Smith; and sister, Debra Long. Left to cherish his memory are his loving partner, Rebecca Epstein; children, David (Lori) Smith. Jr., Heather Smith, Chris (Stacey) Smith and Chelsea Smith; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Diane Smith and Dennis (Annie) Smith; sister-in-law, Pat Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 4:00 p.m.
