Dave Shutters, 86, of Delta, Ohio, passed away at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo on June 6, 2017. Dave was born May 25, 1931, in Oneonta, New York, to Raymond and Della Shutters. He graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta in 1958. Among Dave's accolades was his military service in the Korean War. He was a corporal in the Army, and was wounded, but survived the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Dave was also an avid bowhunter and talented artist.
Dave is survived by his children, Dorothy (Matt) Stohl, Dave (LuAnn) Shutters, Mike Shutters, Jim (Terri) Shutters and Tony (Beth Munger) Shutters; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Laura Shutters-Jokinen.
Dave battled illness bravely, and drew strength from his Catholic faith and his family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900), where members of the Lucas County Burial Corps will present honors at 6:00 p.m.
