David C. Johnson

December 8, 1967 — March 14, 2025

Toledo, Ohio

David C. Johnson, beloved husband, father, brother, and dedicated educator, passed away on March 14, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on December 8, 1967, in Oregon, Ohio. David's passion for teaching and advocating for others drove him throughout his career, where he spent the last thirteen years as a special education teacher with Toledo Public Schools. His commitment to helping students, particularly those with behavior issues, showcased his enormous heart and dedication, and he was deeply respected by both his colleagues and the families he served.

David graduated from Bowsher High School in 1986 and then went on to the University of Toledo, where he earned his Master's degree in Higher Education. This educational foundation enabled him to touch the lives of many students, making a lasting impact on their journeys.

In addition to his career, David was a man of varied interests and vivid personality. He had a sarcastic sense of humor that brought joy to those around him, yet he maintained a professional demeanor when necessary. An ardent fan of music, he found great pleasure in the works of Prince and Luther Vandross. David also cheered passionately for the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Lakers, and Duke Basketball Teams. His love for them was matched only by the joy he found in traveling and going to casinos, particularly with his cherished wife, Michelle, with whom he shared nearly thirty years of marriage.

David was a proud father, and his sons, Devin, Hunter, and Matthew, were the lights of his life. He would go to great lengths to support them, often stating that they were his proudest accomplishments. David also had a small, tight-knit social circle that included dear friends James Snodgrass, Chris McBrayer, and his mentor Glenn Johnson. Throughout his life, he cherished the relationships he built and the memories created with those he loved.

His family ties extended to his brothers and sisters, including Henry Smith, Randall Smith (with wife Michaelann), Darrel Johnson (with wife Paula), Jamal Johnson, Arnold Mack Jr. (with wife Erica), Christopher Mack (with wife Nikki), Crystal Johnson-Brown, Regina Johnson-Crump, Trudy Johnson, Truly Johnson III, Ramero Wesley Sr., and Marivel Johnson. Each of these family members held a special place in David’s heart, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and dear friends, all of whom will remember him for his kindness and enthusiasm for life.

David was preceded in Death by Truly Johnson, his father, Frances Mack, his mother and Brad Wesley, his brother.

David also found companionship and joy in his beloved dogs. While he mourned the recent passing of Tinker Bell, he also took comfort in the company of Lucky and Comet, who remained by his side throughout his life.

David C. Johnson's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A visitation will be held on March 20, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on March 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM, both at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Southwest Toledo. A graveside service will follow at Toledo Memorial Park at 11:30 AM.

David's spirit and love will continue to inspire his family and friends as they navigate life without him.
