David L. "Dave" Carpenter, Sr., age 86, of Swanton, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 16, 1931 to William and Dolly (Stiltner) Carpenter in Toledo. Dave was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was employed with Chrysler Corp. for 28 years before retiring. Dave enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Dave loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ben Carpenter and sister, Carol Rompf. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jewel Carpenter; sons, Jamie Groot, William (Joan) Carpenter, David Jr. (Debbie) Carpenter, Scott (Rachel) Carpenter and Kurt Carpenter; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother, William (Gloria) Carpenter, Jr.; and many other family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Springfield Township Cemetery.
