Dan Edward Wentland died in his home on Sept. 18, 2015 in Toledo, Ohio. He was 72.
Dan was born on Jan. 31, 1943 in Rossford, Ohio to the late Jayne (Richards) and Fred Wentland. After graduation from Rossford High School, he entered an apprenticeship program for Glaziers Local 948. He married Rhodena Fulwider in 1965. Dan worked as a glazier on many building projects in the Toledo area for Toledo Mirror and Ohio Plate Glass. He taught at Cotter Apprenticeship School from 1970-72. In 1992, he became the Business Agent and Pension Chairperson for Glaziers Local 948. He retired in 2001, worked part-time in security for Toledo Public Schools, retiring in 2013 and spent his remaining time with his family and friends and volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital.
An avid handball player, "Weasel" played in the National 3-Wall Handball Championships in the 1970s – 90s at the Lucas County Rec Center. He also loved fishing, golfing, camping, reading, exploring nature and making people laugh – especially his grandchildren. He took weekly trips to the library for new reads. Salami was his bait of choice for catching fish at his campground. He trained the muskrats in the creek next to his house to eat apples out of his hand and fed the snapping turtles hotdogs everyday.
Dan is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Rhodena (Fulwider); his daughters Andrea (Wayne) Coots of Cincinnati and Jill (Greg) Hartmann of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Jordan, Ally, Lucy, Jack and Max; his great granddaughter, Rylinn; his brother Fred (Bobby Kay); his brother Mike (Tina); his brother-in-law Dale (Mary Beth) Fulwider.
The family will receive guests from 3-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 112 E. Wayne St., Maumee. There will be no graveside services.
