Dale A. Hudson, age 91, of Toledo, passed away, Saturday, July 16, 2016 at home surrounded by loving family. He was born on March 14, 1925 to Ivan and Ruth (Papenfus) Hudson in Toledo. Dale was a well-known commercial artist in the Toledo area. His hand lettered signs were works of art and in high demand in many industries, some still remain today in many local businesses. His signs celebrated weddings, births, and other milestones for many family and friends. Dale was also known as the "Train Guy" in his circle of friends where they met weekly to create a museum quality multi-seasonal model railroad layout that is one of a kind, encompassing his entire basement over a 20 year period. He was an avid music lover, especially the Big Band and Stan Kenton, a love he shared with his two sons, attending concerts on a yearly basis. Dale was a lifelong animal lover, adopting many furry children over his lifetime. He also took great joy in doing for others and touched many lives in large and small ways.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Hudson; son-in-law, Maurice Gorman; sister, June Smalldon; and aunt, Ethyl Hazelton. Dale is survived by his loving children, Randall (Michelle) Hudson, Peggy Gorman and Rick (Carol) Hudson; grandchildren, Ryan, Britt, Amanda, Neely, Lindsey, Noah, Gillian and Mirra; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Our family is extremely grateful for all of the love and care given to Papa over the last year and a half to Neely Harvey and Tracy Recker, who became very close to him, spending every day with him and helping him enjoy his life to the fullest. His grandsons, Ryan and Noah, were also very helpful when needed.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Andy Hill. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Toledo Humane Society.
