Cordell Ethridge, age 85, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Center. He was born on October 29, 1922 to George Washington and Ada (Matthew) Ethridge in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. Cordell was employed as an inspector for 40 years with the American Association of Railroads until retiring in 1983. He was a longtime member of Echo Meadows Church of Christ. Cordell enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife Mavie and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Smith, second wife, Mavie Ethridge on March 6, 2008, four sisters and two brothers. Cordell is survived by his sons, David (Tess), Rick (Sally), Richard (Delia) and Doug Ethridge; grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Erica (George), Jason, Chris (Jennifer), Cindy and Gilberto; 12 great-grandchildren; step-sons, David and Billy Dillard; brother, John Ethridge; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Minister Fred Edens. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
