Connie J. Long

In the early morning hours of January 29, 2014, Connie J. Long began her final journey. She was born on January 20, 1938 to Louise Derwoyed and Louis Guilinger in Toledo, Ohio.

Connie has rejoined the loves of her life, Thomas G. Culver and Theron Long. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and best friend, Jenny (Michael) Filppi; daughters, Sharon Long (Jesus Contreras) and Robin Ossege; loving granddaughters, Deanna Filppi and Patricia Ossege and cherished grandson, Samuel Pozsik.

Connie had a strong spirit and was an extraordinary woman. Family and friends often sited that there wasn't a stranger that she didn't know or a smile kept to herself. She often started conversations with a good joke, family and friends often commented that she brought new meaning to the words "social butterfly." Connie held many roles here in life: telephone operator, teacher's aide, conference assistant and volunteer in the Pastoral Care Dept. at MCO. Her love of travel was endless, taking her to many destinations here in the US and abroad. Connie was an artist on many levels, loved reading, playing cards and corresponding with lifelong friends, some spanning more than 50 years. Her luck and love for "playing the slots" brought her many hours of enjoyment.

The family will receive guests from 1-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Memorial Service will begin at 4:00 p.m.

The family requests memorial donations be made to: Hospice of Northwest Ohio or in Connie's memory a gift to her beloved High School, to serve the ever challenging educational needs of today's children: The George Junior Republic, 380 Freeville Rd., Freeville, NY 13068.

Special thank-yous to Dr. Elaine Mattison; St. Luke's Pulmonary Staff and Rehabilitation Center, to the ever-caring friends and nurses who so diligently made her final days comfortable. May all the seeds of kindness that you've spread along the way be returned to you everyday.
