Clifford L. "Whitey" Merritt, 82, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2012. He was born on August 3, 1929 to the late Margaret and Ernest Merritt in Toledo, Ohio.
Whitey was the Vice-President of the USSSA for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the US Army. Whitey especially enjoyed the time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents, Whitey was preceded in death by his sons, Frank and Joe; brother, Frank and sisters, Jeannie and Joyce. Left to cherish his memory are his children, LaDonna, Clifford Merritt II and Marissa Merritt; step-children, Susie and Kim; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and good friends, Mike and Lee.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 2-6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). A memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
