Cleo Helton

August 7, 1926 — March 10, 2017

Cleo Helton, age 90, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2017. Born in North Carolina, August 7th, 1926, one of 9 children to Barnett and Elizabeth (Manis) Stapleton. She moved with her family in her early years and spent much of her growing years in Tennessee. Cleo met and married Lawrence Helton in 1946 and moved to the Toledo area in the late 40s.

Cleo started and operated her own cleaning company which she continued to work through until the age of 80 when she finally retired in 2006. She also was instrumental in the founding of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and a Charter member of Share Fellowship Church of Rossford Ohio.

Cleo enjoyed singing from an early age, a talent she shared with her mom. Gospel songs were her favorite but she was also known to serenade those around her with some country favorites as well. One of her all time favorite songs was "you get a line, I'll get a pole ...", an upbeat melody that put a smile on everyone's face every time.

Cleo was a kind and caring person who treasured the many folks and friends she met along the road of her life.

In addition to her husband of 42 years, Lawrence Helton, Cleo was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Cristy Helton; brothers, Charles, John, James, Will and J.B. Stapleton; sister, Alma Barrett; sisters-in-law, Arvella, Jean and Mary Stapleton and special lifelong friend, Sharon Witzler-Snyder. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Helton; sons, Steven (Cathy) and Chris Helton; sisters, Barb and Ruby; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cleo will also be remembered by her special friend, caregiver and companion, Kelia Davis who was like a daughter.

The family would also like to thank the staff of Blackstone for the tender loving care, kindness and friendship.

Memorial donations may be made to: Share Fellowship Church, 604 Dixie Hwy., Rossford, OH 43460.
