Clayton K. Rusch
Clayton K. Rusch, age 97, a longtime resident of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Flower Hospital. He was born November 4, 1910 to Alexander and Julia (De Vere) Rusch in Cincinnati, Ohio. Clayton was the owner of the "High Level" Barber Shop on Nevada Streets for more than 25 years. He was also involved with Insurance and Real Estate Sales and magazine sales for Catholic Charities for several years. Clayton was honored as "Humanitarian of the Year" in 2006. He was a Trustee on several boards including EOPA, LAWO/Able, Toledo Legal Aid, ProBono, Medical Mutual, Lucas County Health and Human Services; Nutritional Site Counsel and The Area Office on Aging. He was a past president of the Layman's League of 1st Unitarian Church, as well as the Social Justice Society at the church. Clayton was one of the original founders of the Toledo Chapter of the ACLU. He was an enthusiastic reader enjoying selections on History and Government. Clayton was also an avid writer, penning many poems which were put into a collection by his son. His poems were of historical events and experiences and memories from his church and organizational involvements. Clayton was a devoted family man and enjoyed going on picnics in the country with his family and friends, well into his 90's.
In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen; Virgie; Marie and Gladys and his brother, Victor. Clayton is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Rusch; children, Douglas (Colleen) Rusch; Shirley Parrish and Julian (Betty) Rouch; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews; dear friends and colleagues.
At Clayton's request Funeral Services will be Private. A Memorial Gathering will be planned for a later date.
