Claude Richard Montgomery, born on June 10, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was 91 years old. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Claude leaves behind a legacy rich in family and service.
After proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Claude transitioned into a successful career as a warehouse manager. He also was a member of American Legion and was a Mason. His dedication to his work and his community was evident in his love for politics, where he became treasurer for Burnie Quilter and contributed significantly by serving on various committees.
Claude’s deep passion for the game of football was matched only by his commitment to coaching young athletes. His time spent coaching at Oakdale School and with the Toledo Patriots remains one of his proudest accomplishments. An avid photographer, Claude found joy in capturing the beauty of the world around him. He enjoyed bird watching and was a devoted fan of Ohio State Buckeye Football.
Claude is survived by his beloved wife, Laurel Ann (Carlton) Montgomery, and their two sons, Claude (Cheri) Montgomery Jr. and Rick (Kay) Montgomery. He was a proud grandfather to Bethany Montgomery, Rachel Hartman, Amanda (Sean) Murray, and Kellie (Keith) Sterling, and his great-grandchildren Ruby, Jett, Brantley, and Madilyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Friends will be received on February 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614. Claude will be laid to rest privately in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
