Clarence J. "Bud"
Clarence "Bud" Wilker, 89 years, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008 at The Glendale, Ryan Rd., Toledo. He was the son of Clarence and Mabel (Mischka) Wilker, born on May 25, 1919 in Toledo. Bud attended Waite High School. He married Maybelle Leyda on November 10, 1941. They were blessed with one son, Gary W. Wilker. Bud served in the U.S. Army in WWII from March 1942 to October 1945. He was a Technician Fifth Grade 3575th Quartermaster Truck Co. Bud was honorably discharged from Nichols General Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
He started his working career in the Kresgees & Ben Franklin stores as a window and store decorator. Bud was also a car salesman for Keller-Nash, Monroe St. for 14 years and for Valiton Motors, Sylvania Ave. for 22 years. After retirement he continued to work part-time for Murphy's Used Cars, Central Ave. (now Sylvania Ave.).
Bud loved people of all ages. He will be missed by his many friends and relatives. Bud loved to plant and care for flowers in his beautiful yard. He also loved to ride his 3 wheeled bike all over the neighborhood. Bud had many hobbies; traveling, golfing, working with leather; making numerous items with wood and he even used an electric saw as of November 2007. He enjoyed sharing his hobbies with his friends.
Bud was a life member of the Disabled Veterans, the American Legion Post 335, Damascus/Collingwood Lodge #643 F. & A.M., and a fifty year member of Collingwood United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maybelle Wilker on September 24, 2003 and his great-nephew, Brandon Shortsle in 2000. Bud is survived by his loving son, Gary; sister, Lois Shortsle; sisters-in-law, Ruth Leyda and Anna Belle Shepherd; 8 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Memorial Services will begin Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Paula Stewart.
