Clara Lee Brown

April 29, 1940 — November 21, 2021

Clara Lee (Roach) Brown was born April 29, 1940 in Shelby, Mississippi. She departed this life on November 21, 2021 at Toledo Hospital.

"Clara Mae" as she was affectionately called as a child and throughout her life, was brought to Toledo, Ohio as a young child after the death of her mother, Jessie Mae Roach-Sanders by her Uncle, the late Rev. A.L. Roach. He raised Clara as his own daughter and she lovingly referred to him as "Daddy", as he was the only father she had ever known. She attended Scott High School as a teenager.

Clara was a long time member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under the leadership of her uncle, the late Rev. A. L. Roach. Later in life she was an active member, utilizing her nursing ministry at various churches. She took her nursing duties seriously and with vigor for over 40 years.

Clara was an active participant and member of the city-wide fellowship for over 45 years; she loved being a part of it and looked forward to it yearly. She never failed to give of herself unconditionally, without measure, to others in whatever capacity she could. She was dedicated, committed, faithful, loyal, and reliable to her nursing ministry, church and family.

The last few years of her life she was a dedicated soldier for the Lord at St. Mark's Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of the late I. J. Johnson and Rev. C. L. Johnson.

Clara was also a textile worker for many years and was active in the community along side her late husband William F. Brown, Jr. Together they received the People's Tribunal, Inc. Community Service Award in August of 1992. Clara had a wonderful sense of humor and was very animated. She was known by all to be spicy and feisty and a ball of energy. She will be sorely, lovingly, and dearly missed.

Clara was preceded in death by her mother, Ms. Jessie Mae Roach-Sanders; husband, William F. Brown Jr., ; Uncle, Rev. A. L. Roach; daughter, Latoya C. Fifer; granddaughter, William F.Brown, Jr.; and grandson, Corey L. Fifer.

Her legacy will be remembered and cherished by her daughters, Muriel L. Martin and Jackie Butler, great-grandsons, Keith D. Fifer and Khyrik Fifer, and a host of friends.

The family will receive guests Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Mark Baptist Church, 2340 N Holland Sylvania Rd. Funeral Services will follow at the Church. Interment will take place at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
