Cherie Ruckman

Cherie B. Ruckman, age 78, passed away Thursday, May 6th, 2010 after she spent precious moments with her loving family and grandchildren at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. She was born August 23rd, 1931 to Walter and Sophie (Rokicki) Melczak in Toledo, Ohio. Cherie worked at A and P Grocery Store for 17 years as a cashier and a bookkeeper. She enjoyed going to garage sales, playing cards every Friday night with her friends, sewing and crocheting, baking and cooking for her family, flower and vegetable gardening. Every year Cherie challenged her son-in-law Mike, to see who could grow the first tomato or green pepper of the season. She was very involved in her grandchildren's sporting events, always supporting them and rooting them on. Cherie's family will cherish the wonderful Christmas memories that they shared with her as it was her favorite holiday.

Survivors include her loving husband of 37 years, Richard Ruckman; children, Robin (Mike) Kos, Robert Pietkowski and Carole Lee, Joe (Pam) Pietkowski and Robert (Dede) Ruckman; grandchildren, Wendy (Chris), Jay (fiance Amanda), Sara (Dan), Chad, Tara, Lindsay (Matt), Ryan, Kayla, Cory, Brian, Valarie, Casey and Andy; 9 great-grandchildren, close family and friends and her favorite dog, Jewel.

Preceding her in death is her first husband, Robert Pietkowski.

The family will receive guests Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Fr. Doug Garand. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
