Charlie B. Smith was born to the union of Mr. DeeWitt Smith and Mrs. Alice (Smith) Smith on September 27, 1927 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He departed this life on Thursday, January 24th 2008 in Toledo, Ohio.
Charlie was united to Dorathea before entering the Army. He was in the United States Army for 2 years, it was then that he received a one quarter master degree in pastry. After coming out of the Army, Smitty (as affectionately known) worked at Textileather for 38 years, where he worked diligently on a grinder.
Charlie was a quiet but strong man and always loving to his family. He accepted Christ later in life at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church downtown, Toledo under the late Rev. G. J. Johnson.
Charlie was a horse racing enthusiast and enjoyed spending time at Raceway Park over the years.
Charlie is survived by his sister Mary D. Vaughter, of Murfreesboro, and brother, James K. Smith, Sr., of Maryland. He is also survived by his devoted, loving wife of 54 years, Dorathea (Wade); daughters, Peggy White and Elaine Smith; son, Charles J. Smith, all of Toledo. Charlie has 4 grandchildren, numerous great grand children and 3 great-great grand children. He also has numerous nieces and nephew and a host of cousins and well wishers that will cherish his memory. Charlie always thought of Anna (Norman) Turner as a special niece.
The family will receive guests Tuesday from 12-1:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Coley. Interment will be in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
