Charles Thomas Tasker, 89, went home to join his Lord and Savior on July 12, 2013. He was born on May 13, 1924 to the late Charles R. Tasker and Olive Pearl Rumsey Tasker in Toledo, Ohio.
Chuck graduated from Macomber High School and attended the University of Toledo. He began his career at Toledo Stamping & Manufacturing in his teens, and retired from the company in 1987 as Vice President of Sales. Chuck married the love of his life, Joan, in 1949 and together they moved as his job required; from Toledo, to Dubuque IA, Chicago IL and Rockford IL before coming back to Toledo. He was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis Club, The Toledo Club and Toledo Rotary Club. Chuck loved the outdoors, taking his family camping, fishing and "frogging"! He loved a "good game" – including tennis, cribbage, poker and bridge. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 1987, he remained an inspiration to all who knew him with his cheerful demeanor and ever present smile. Chuck and Joan even continued to travel, retiring in Boca Raton, FL for 20 years. While living in Boca they made many trips to the Florida Keys where their family would join them on vacation. They were also members of the First United Methodist in Boca Raton. After Joan's death, Chuck moved back to Toledo where he resided at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. You would see him outdoors at the campus, on his scooter with his orange flag flying behind him, greeting people who stopped by.
In addition to his parents and wife, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, James and grandson, Devin. He is survived by his daughters, Amy (David) Bulthuis, Jill (Patrick) McMillen and Susan (David) Larkins; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Lutheran Village, who became his extended family over the past 6 years. We would also like to thank Odyssey Hospice for their loving care. And our special friend, Debbie Babine, for all she has done for us.
Memorial donations may be made to The Lutheran Home Society of Toledo and Odyssey Hospice.
A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
