Charles D. "Charlie" Smith, age 88, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born on September 25, 1932 to Cloyce and Grace (Gladfelter) Smith in Napoleon, OH. Charlie was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country proudly during the Korean War. Charlie was an accomplished auto mechanic throughout his life before retiring. He was an avid pool player, was on several leagues; and most recently played at the local senior center. Charlie was a car enthusiast and had a love of classic cars. In his later years, he became a football fan and enjoyed watching games. Charlie looked forward to spending time with his family. His smile, spirit and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 36 years, Dalene Smith; children, Michelle Glanville, Katherine (Doug) May, Joshua Smith, Sariah (Mike) Flynn, David (Julie) Samson and Phillip (Stephanie) Samson; grandchildren, Alexis, Ashley, Chase, Autumn, Damien, Alexandra, Domonic, Wyatt, Jasmine, Phillip, Forrest, Elizabeth and Emily; great-grandchildren, Rae, Eliza, Emma and Archie; sister, Sue (Tony) Thompson; 3 nephews; and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday, July 9, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
