SEIBOLD
"Grandpa Chuck"

Charles Frederick Seibold, "Grandpa Chuck" passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007, two days after his 90th birthday. Charles was born on January 18, 1917 to Thomas and Armeda Seibold. He proudly served his country in the Army for 15 years where he met Bessie Johnston in Northern Ireland. There would be no marriage without the support of her father and for 65 years there was no one who could ever measure up to Bessie. Charles worked at BGSU, Nazareth Hall, Perrysburg Journal, Poll Electric and Pinkerton. His most rewarding job came later in life as a surrogate grandparent to the students of Greenwood Elementary School for the past 20 years. Charles could be seen driving his moped "very slowly" down Alexis Rd., sometimes holding up traffic for a half mile, to report to his duties at Greenwood. He rewarded the students daily during Physical Education classes with a pack of sports cards for good behavior as they left the gym. Grandpa Chuck was also well known as a loyal supporter of Washington Local sports serving as coach, umpire, and an avid spectator. His generosity and love have left an impression on thousands of children. Grandpa Chuck's proudest moment was as an Olympic torch bearer at the age of 79 for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The torch which he carried proudly hangs in the lobby of Greenwood School.

Grandpa Chuck is survived by "surrogate" daughters: Lisa (Paul) Gunther and Christy (John) Rupp (both teachers at Greenwood); grandchildren: Gabby and Lily Gunther, Logan and Johnny Rupp; and the thousands of children who have passed through the doors of Greenwood School. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Ruth and Verda.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., (419-473-0300) from 3 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
