Charles W. "Chuck" Hayes, Sr.

Charles W. “Chuck” Hayes, Sr., age 81, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Monday, September 30, 2024 at Heatherdowns Care & Rehab with loving family by his side. He was born to Luke and Irene (Meeker) Hayes in Toledo. Chuck was a 1961 graduate of Rogers High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country proudly. Chuck retired from ETNA Supply Company. He was a longtime member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579, Joseph W. Diehn American Legion Post 468, VFW, and the Ottawa Lake Sportsman’s Club for many years. 

Chuck was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Detroit Lions. He enjoyed hunting, bowling and golfing. Chuck loved camping with family and friends throughout the years. He had a huge heart and always welcomed his children’s friends making them family. Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, John Henry Crooks. Left to cherish Chuck’s memory are his loving wife of 59 years, LuAnn Hayes; children, Linda (George) Crooks, Charles (Jennifer) Hayes, Jr., and Terry (Janice) Hayes; grandchildren, Anthony Hayes, Hank Crooks, Johnathan (Jennifer) Hayes, Tony Crooks, McKenna Siefker, Mac Hayes, Zachary Hayes, Ashton Hayes, and Brady Hayes; sister, Beverly (Jerry) Fall; four-legged friend, Charlie; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends especially at the Moose Lodge. 

The family will receive guests on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd., Toledo, OH 43617 (419-392-9500). Funeral Mass will begin on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623.
