Charles H. Hartman

Charles H. Hartman, age 92, currently of Monclova, Ohio, and formerly (for almost 60 years) of Charlotte Street in Toledo, Ohio passed away March 24, 2017. He was born March 22, 1925 in Toledo to Henry and Viola (Rust) Hartman. Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army as a Senior attending Libbey High School in 1943. He served in the Rhineland campaign and the Ardennes Campaign during World War II as a heavy machine gunner. After his discharge in late 1945, he started his 40-year tenure at the Toledo Scale Company. Charles also met his wife of 66 years, Lola (Huff) at Tiedtke's Department Store, and they were married in December of 1947.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola to whom he was the primary caregiver for several years before she passed away in March of 2014. Charles is survived by his two children, Nola (Earl John, Jr.) Gilliland and David (Linda) Hartman; four grandchildren, Jennyfer (Nicholas) Marsico, E.J. Gilliland, III, David Hartman, II and Lisa (Peter) Schmidt; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Marsico, Sophia Marsico, Dylan Schmidt and Charleston Schmidt; sister, Dorothea (George) Etue; and niece, Yvonne (Larry) Reed.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park with Military Honors rendered by the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corp.
