Charles Hugh "Doc" "Dugan" Gazella, age 88, of Toledo, formerly of Lansing and Ionia, Michigan, passed away on January 1, 2017 Ebeid Hospice Residence from multi organ failure. He was born on July 28, 1928 to Frank and Mildred (Jackson) Gazella in Ionia, Michigan, one of 12 children. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant being enlisted from 1950 – 1954. Chuck worked for the State of Michigan in the Transportation Department for over 25 years before retiring. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob for the last 42 years. Chuck also volunteered at St. Anne's Mercy Hospital since opening for the last 10 years in Toledo. He was an usher at Regina Coeli for 20 years and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Chuck was an avid bowler and golfer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, R. Elaine Gazella; daughters, Beth Gazella, of Kailua, Hawaii and Kim Gazella, of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter, Jenna Gazella, of Kailua, Hawaii; sisters, Louise (John) Sweet, Rose Mary Gazella, Janet Gazella, Margaret Bonham and Mary Jane Gazella; sister-in-law, Jane Gazella; step-children, Karen Huxford, Gail (Ferd) Crotte, Amy (Rick) Bartkiewicz and Todd Bryan; step-grandchildren, Eric, Corie, Robin (Patrick), Jerra, Lila, Lana and Aamanda; 6 step-great-grandchildren; plus many caring nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Richard, James and Carl Gazella; 3 sisters, Catherine, Janice and Josephine Gazella; and great-grandson, Owen James Lucio-Patrick.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
