Charles Erichson

November 19, 1941 — March 22, 2014

Charles D. Erichson, Sr.
Loving Husband and Father
11/19/1941-3/22/14
72 years old

A lifelong resident of Toledo, Charlie was born to Herbert and Florence Erichson. He grew up in north Toledo with his siblings Beverly and Bob, and his Uncle Paul Fye. He was an adventurous and jovial child and started to work early in life, at age 7; helping Uncle Paul deliver milk for the Cherry Grove Dairy. He also set pins at Mercury Bowling Alley on Stickney Avenue at age 12. He was known for his strong work ethic and began his 47 year-long career as a longshoreman, operating heavy equipment at the Port of Toledo, in 1958. Charlie was also proud of his business T-Shirts & Stuff and restaurant Chilly Charlie's. He was a proud officer of the International Longshoremen's Association, local 1982. Charlie played semi-professional football for Bill Hart's Thunderbirds in 1958. He served in the 983rd engineering division of the Army Corps of engineers, Army Reserves, from 1967-1973. He often recalled fond memories of friends from Lagrange Street and west Toledo who spent time at Mel's Drive-in at Cherry and Delaware. He was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he played on many championship softball teams. His early interest in automobiles motivated him to join the Drifters hot rod club. He has owned various cars, boats, and motorcycles, which he was eager to share with others. He met the love of his life, Margie (Reuss), at the Seaport in April of 1974. He proposed on the site of their future home that Christmas, and they were married the following year. During their 38 year marriage, he shared his generous love with their two children, Charlie and Tara. He enjoyed seeing his children succeed. He loved watching Northview football games and listening to the Northview A Capella Choir. His personality was infectious and he was well-liked by all who met him. He loved his family. His happy boisterous laugh will stay with us always.

He is survived by his beloved wife Margie, son, Charlie, daughter-in-law Jennifer, daughter, Tara; sister, Beverly Marsh; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
