Charles A. Hixson, Sr., 79 of Toledo, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 with his loving family at his side. Chuck was born December 9, 1934 in Hillsdale, Michigan to John and Elsie Hixson.
Chuck worked 31 years at AP Parts, retiring in 1984 and worked over 20 years at Colony Hardware, where he enjoyed working on windows.
He enjoyed singing, puzzles, reading, watching NASCAR (Jeff Gordon) hockey, football, boating, fishing, gardening, restoring antique cars and hunting for morel mushrooms. He collected penguins with his wife and enjoyed going to the movies. Chuck was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Donna Hixson; children, Charles (Alice) Hixson, Jr., Thomas Hixson, Holly (Dave) Smith, Colleen (Greg) Ball and Amy (Ernie) Yeager; grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Heather (Jeff) Bartlett, Brock Hixson, Ernie Yeager, Taylor Hixson, Hope Smith, Haley (Kaleb) Neeld, Allie Yeager, Kelsey Ball and Christopher Yeager; great grandchildren, Genesis, Caydin, Leon, Crosbey and soon to be Harper; siblings, Marilyn, Karl, James (Dorothy), John Jr. (Jackie) and Paul (Audrey); mother-in-law, Jane Hoffman and brother-in-law, Terry (Barbara) Hoffman.
The family will receive guests Friday, June 6, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road (419-473-0300). Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio where the family will receive guests at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
