Charlayne Nancy Johnstone

Charlayne Nancy Johnstone, age 83, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away June 5, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. Charlayne was born on September 29, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Charles and Helen (Watson) Durell.

Charlayne graduated from Waite High School, class of 1958. She worked for Toledo Public Schools and retired after 28 years.

A woman of faith, she was a member of Goodwill Spiritual Church. She loved doing ceramics, spending summers at the lake house, and indulging in a good book!

Charlayne was a loving mother, always caring for her children, especially after the loss of her husband. She helped her daughters with Brownies/Girl Scouts, cared for members of her family, and made sure her home was taken care of. Through ups and downs that life gave her, Charlayne stayed blessed and positive. Though we don’t have her with us here on Earth, we will see her again! This isn’t goodbye, but we will see you later…

Those left to forever cherish her memory are her loving children, Pamela Gail Waugh (J. Cirilo Reyes) and Roderick Kimball Johnstone (Rebecca Nelson); grandchildren, Randolph Scott Kudlica Jr., Destiny Lynn Kudlica, Paul Edwin Kudlica, Jeffrey Edward Barger, Bryan David Barger, Cassandra Elise Barger, Sean Alan Waugh, Edwin Thomas Johnstone, Roderick Kimball Johnstone Jr., and Jacob Lee Johnstone; and sister, Cheryl Ann Ballmer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Ruthren Johnstone Jr.; and daughter, Victoria June Kudlica.

Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the funeral home, at 11:00 am. Following the service, Charlayne will be laid to rest at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo, Ohio.
