Lillian "Cathy" (Wimmers) Vrooman
On November 27, 2015, Cathy went home to meet her Lord and savior Jesus Christ at Promedica Ebeid Hospice Residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Cathy was born on November 29, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Raymond L. Wimmers and Laura M. (Crain) Wimmers. The Wimmers family moved to Toledo and settled in the Tribly area. Cathy graduated from Whitmer High School in 1958 along with her future life mate Bob Vrooman. After attending several classes at Davis Business College, she started her business career as a private secretary for the Richland Corporation.
On July 23, 1960, Cathy and Bob were married in Trilby Methodist Church and moved to Norfolk, Virginia to begin their life together. When their service time was over, they returned to Toledo and moved to a home in Sylvania Township. Cathy was a full time homemaker, but found time to serve her neighbors as an AVON representative. She was an active supporter of all sports and activities that her children were involved in.
On June 21, 1972 she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Baptism and membership in Emmanuel Baptist Church followed. Cathy served as a Sunday School Kindergarten teacher and later the Superintendent of the Kindergarten classes. When she retired from teaching, she became the secretary of the Maranatha Bible class, The Toledo Craftsman's Guild and T.O.P.S., a support group were a special part of her life. A gifted painter, she created many unique items that she sold at craft shows or gave as gifts.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and oldest son, Robert "Larry" Vrooman. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Bob Vrooman, son Raymond Edward and daughter Amy (Jason) Spang, daughter-in-law Sue (Norm) Dotson and Kimberly Vrooman, Brother Robert E. (Barb) Wimmers, Grandchildren, Randy Vrooman, Tara (Mike) Coakley, Heather Vrooman, Conner and Grayson Spang. She is also survived by her Aunt Jeanette Crain, special cousins, Nancy Stevens, Peggy (Herb) Dunn and Tracy McLaughlin, her Cincinnati family. She is also survived by a dear friend Judy Dewey.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). The funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Rd. Toledo 419- 473-3280 with Pastor Bruce Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Toledo Memorial Park.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Emmanuel Baptist Church or Ebeid Hospice Residence. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the Toledo Cancer Clinic, the Nurses of Paramount in Home Health Care and in Home Hospice Care along with the Doctors, Nurses and Volunteers of Ebeid Hospice Residence, for their love and special care of Cathy.
