Calvin J. "Cal" Courtney, age 75, formerly from Deshler, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at The University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1935 to Paul and Ida Mae (Hunter) in Deshler, Ohio. Cal married Doris (Duffey) Courtney from Bloomville on November 11, 1956, recently celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary. After graduating from Deshler High School, Cal continued his education in accounting at Tiffin University. He was a member of the Air National Guard. Cal worked for Prestolite Electric as the general accounting manager for over 42 years in several different locations. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to Amish country and camping. Cal and Doris initially had a fifth wheel camper and upgraded to a motor home, which is known as, "Dad's Dog House." Cal was a Past President of the Michigan Knights of the Highway and an active member of Maumee United Methodist Church.
Cal is survived by his loving wife, Doris; daughters, Lu Ann (Bob) Stahl and Linda Courtney; sister, Joyce (Henry) Baumgardner; grandchildren Chris St. Peter and Amanda (Jason) Carnicom; great grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Carnicom.
The family will receive guests Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday, November 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Scot Ocke officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery in Bloomville, Ohio.
