Bryan D. Ellis, age 50, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by so much love, on August 13, 2023. Son of Lana Angelotti and the late Bruce Ellis. Cherished husband of Jenna Ellis and father of Annabelle and Landon Ellis. Brother of Jeff (Toni Wozniak) Ellis. Loving uncle of Kayleigh Ellis.
Bryan was born and raised in Toledo, OH. He completed his secondary education at Roy C. Start High School in Toledo, OH where he enjoyed running cross country. Bryan continued his education at the University of Toledo where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering in 1998. After passing his EIT (Engineer in Training) exam and completing the required hours, he obtained his Professional Engineering license. He also attended Owens Community College where he received credits for land surveying that allowed him to take the SIT(Surveyor in Training) exam and later he became a licensed land surveyor. Bryan was licensed in both land surveying and engineering in Ohio and Michigan and land surveying in Indiana.
He worked for various land surveying and civil engineering companies before starting his own company Glass City Engineering and Surveying, LLC in 2006. As the company grew he acquired GM Barton Survey Co and later he also purchased the records for National Survey Service. Bryan was a history buff regarding land surveys and really enjoyed the research part of his job and having the historical records on hand.
Bryan enjoyed having different appointments throughout his career, too. He was a Chairman for the Lucas County Access Management Appeals Board from 2009 to 2022. He was also an active member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio (PLSO). He was the Toledo Chapter PLSO President in 2011 and the PLSO Executive Board Treasurer in 2012.
Bryan also had a passion for education and development in the land surveying field. He taught an introduction to land surveying course in the Civil Engineering department at the University of Toledo from 2007 until 2017. He was committed to helping all of his students succeed and served as the University of Toledo ASCE student chapter advisor. He also participated in The Boy Scouts of America programs to help those interested receive their surveying merit badge.
Bryan met his loving wife and soulmate, Jenna Ellis in the summer of 2008. They were later married in Hocking Hills, Ohio on May 26, 2012. They welcomed their daughter, Annabelle, in March of 2013 and son, Landon, in September of 2015. Bryan will lovingly be remembered as an active participant in his family and a "hands-on" dad. Bryan's family enjoyed joining him for land surveying field work all over the state of Ohio and Southeastern, Michigan. His family also enjoyed looking for survey markers on all family vacations.
Bryan will be greatly missed, but the knowledge and caring nature that he blessed his family, friends, employees, students, and clients with will be forever memorialized in the wonderful memories of him.
Bryan was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Ellis; step-father, Anthony Angelotti; and his dogs that provided unconditional love throughout the years, Chopper and Andre.
