Brenda S. Bishop

Brenda S. Bishop, age 79, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 4, 2021 at home with loving family by her side. She was born on September 16, 1941 to James and Cornie (Reed) Bishop in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Brenda graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1959 and then proudly continued her studies at the University of Michigan, bravely pursuing her dream of becoming an actress. Upon arriving in New York City, she met, fell in love with, and married Christ John "Zach" Zaharias and had two beautiful children. Following their time in New York, the family moved west to Michigan and then she and the children ended up in Toledo.

Throughout her lifetime, Brenda had many careers including licensed real estate agent, legal and medical secretary, hypnotherapist, court reporter and transcriptionist, and balloon artist. She was always working tirelessly to provide and take care of her family.

Brenda loved animals, especially her cats. She enjoyed arts and crafts, taking cruises with her sister, doing puzzles and playing word games. Brenda's greatest joy was her family, most importantly her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and never missed an event. Brenda's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth and Edward Bishop. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Christopher James (Melissa) Zaharias and Julie Zaharias Hoffman; grandchildren, Emily Reed, Caitlyn Jae, Cristien John, and Cara Jules; she was also blessed to be "Nana" to, Payton Matthew and Alton Ray; siblings, Margaret Puckett, Marilyn (Craig) Rutherford, and Don (Jane) Bishop; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family will receive guests on her 80th birthday, Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 3 – 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd., Toledo (419-392-9500) with a Celebration of Life beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
