Boyd A. Cornett
April 6, 1930 — March 24, 2022
Boyd A. Cornett, age 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Merit House. He was born on April 6, 1930 to Burlie and Ida (Waters) Cornett in Beaver Dam, North Carolina. He attended Bethel elementary school through the 7th grade. Boyd grew up working on the family farm saw milling in the Appalachian Mountains. He was self-taught and a jack of all trades. Boyd met the love of his life, Madeline Dishman and they were married on March 26, 1952 in Mountain City, TN. Shortly after they moved up North for better opportunities.
Boyd was employed with the original Chevrolet plant on Central Ave., then at Mather Springs North Cove plant and Toledo Lumber & Mill Work before becoming a self-employed carpenter carrying on a tradition started on the farm with his father. He loved music, especially traditional country and playing and building guitars. Boyd also liked camping and fishing. His most favorite pastime was attending his sons' and grandson's racing events. Boyd loved spending time with his family. His smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Hodges; brother, Don Cornett. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Madeline Cornett; sons, Royce (Tiffany), Randy and Ricky Cornett; grandchildren, R.J., and Brooklyn; siblings, Beulah Sanders, Marie Calloway, Rebecca Poncel, Rachel (Billy) Hayden, and Lois (Jerry) Hauck; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bedford Memorial Gardens.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Heritage Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio.
