Beverly Jane Burns
Sunrise Sunset September 8, 1986 – March 1, 2025
We celebrate the life of Beverly Jane Burns, born on September 8, 1986, in Sylvania, OH. Beverly embraced life with joy and compassion. On March 1, 2025, at the age of 38, she peacefully transitioned at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Beverly was the beloved daughter of Linda (Lewis) Batey and the late Rufus Batey.
Beverly grew up in the city of Toledo, Ohio and was a student at Toledo Public Schools. In 2007, she moved to Arlington, TX and attended Tarrant County College studying Business Administration Management before returning to Toledo in 2009. She spent over two decades dedicated to client relations, always bringing warmth and kindness to those she encountered in her work.
Beverly was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at a young age. She was raised in the True Church of God of the Apostolic Faith, where she found joy singing in the Voices of Tomorrow Youth choir under the direction of one of her mentors Elder Quincy Hammond. Beverly loved to travel. She loved going on vacation with her friends. She has traveled several places within the United States, but one of her fondest memories was traveling all throughout Europe— Hungary, France, Spain, lifting her voice in praise to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Beverly also had a passion for cooking—her holiday feasts were legendary, bringing the family together year after year. Beverly was the glue that held everyone close, a source of laughter, love, and unwavering support. Beverly’s radiant smile could light up any room, and her kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness made her a treasured friend to many. Family was everything to Beverly, and she shared a particularly special bond with her baby sister, Latoya. They were inseparable, known affectionately as "Bev and Toya" by those who loved them.
Beverly was proceeded in death by her beloved son, Naszir Williams, her father, Rufus Batey; grandmothers, Beverly Edmonds and Cora Lee Batey; grandfathers, Grundy Lewis and Van Batey; uncles, Lawrence Lewis Sr. and Ruben Batey; great-grandmother Rosetta McClellan; great-aunts, Sara Brown and Marva Smith; great-uncle John McClellan; cousins, James (Jimmy) Smith, Douglas (SugarRay) Robinson, Jo’Von “DeDe” Porter, Lawrence Lewis Jr.; and her favorite mother-in-law, Bridgett Burns.
Beverly leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her mother, Linda Lewis; stepfather, Remy Willie; siblings, Armond (Beionca) Batey, LaJuana Batey, Lynn (Eric) Hunter, Andre (Paula) Batey, and LaToya Batey; best friends, Dichele Parker and Erika Mills; special friends, Jimmy Burns and Jessica Lawrence; special nephew LaSean Galloway; special niece Linda Hunt, God children Ja’Vantay, Za’Onia, and Zoei Noble and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Beverly was a gift to us all, and though our hearts ache in her absence, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, free from pain, and reunited with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We will forever miss her love, laughter, and light—but her memory will remain with us always. May she rest in eternal peace.
