Betty J. Vendemo, age 83, of Sylvania passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born November 27, 1927 to Earl and Eleanor (Weakley) Stickels in Toledo. She married Isidoro Vendemo in 1947 and before his passing, they had spent 57 years together. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and she always put her family's needs first. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She often played Keno and her family called her the, "Keno Queen." A favorite past-time that Betty enjoyed was dancing; she loved dancing the jitterbug, the shuffle and tap dancing. Her family will remember her as a wonderful woman with a vibrant personality and they will dearly miss the time they spent with Betty in the "Girlfriend Group."
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Joe (June) Vendemo, Bill (Linda) Vendemo, Susan (Terry) Miller, nee Vendemo, Cindi (Bob) Ruff, nee Vendemo, Nancy Vendemo and Carol (Marty) Ruff, nee Vendemo; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Rita) Stickels and a close circle of dear friends.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with a Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Final Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 8:00 a.m. Friday followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at Little Flower of Jesus, 5522 Dorr St. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph R. Steinbauer. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
