Betty Jane Thompson died peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Sunday, December 15, 2013. Betty was born Betty Jane Ansted at the family farmhouse in Temperance, Michigan, On March 25, 1921 to Irma Gem Ansted and Hanford S. B. Ansted. She moved as a child to a home on Lewis Avenue in what was then considered West Toledo. She attended Whittier School and graduated from DeVilbiss High School. She went on to work at the DeVilbiss Company and Broer-Freeman Jewelers in downtown Toledo. She especially enjoyed her time at Broer-Freeman working with the Fine China.
As a young lady, she married Kenneth Whitmill and they had one daughter, Marilyn Ann. That brief marriage ended in divorce. Betty later married Harry Schmidt, a widow with a young son, James Schmidt. That marriage resulted in the birth of their son, David Schmidt. After Harry's death she married Paul G. Thompson. She was widowed once again and lived on her own for the past thirty years.
Throughout her life, Betty enjoyed soap operas on TV, baking cookies and cakes, travelling throughout Michigan and elsewhere, visiting with family and friends, and watching birds in her backyard. She was very proud of all her children and grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by both of her parents, her sisters Virginia and Shirley, and her brother Hanford Junior. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Beauregard of Toledo, stepson, James R. Schmidt (Hannelore) of Petersburg, Michigan, son David Schmidt of Toledo as well as grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio who were so considerate in these final days. Contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21st , 11:30 A.M. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH, 43614 (419-381-1900). Visitation will be held prior to the memorial Service from 9:30 and 11:30 A.M. A private inurnment will take place at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania OH.
