Betty Jean Lloyd

September 23, 1943 — July 12, 2023

Betty (Dieball) Lloyd, age 79, passed away at Hospice Northwest Ohio on July 12, 2023. She was born September 23,1943 to Dean & Dorothy Dieball and grew up in Point Place, OH. Betty graduated from Woodward Highschool in 1961. She met her husband, Blaine E. Lloyd, at a New Year's Eve party in 1964. They were married on Easter Sunday, April 18th 1965. They had been married 52 years prior to Blaine's passing in 2017.

Betty was an incredibly kind and patient person. Everyone who met her noticed her kindness and always remarked that she is "such a sweet lady". She had the biggest heart and was extremely compassionate. Her kindness and patience took her to her chosen career as a Special Education Teacher. She Graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1965 and began her career at Mason Consolidated in Michigan. Blaine and Betty moved to Waterville Ohio in 1969 where they lived for 46 years. Once she had children she took on the incredibly difficult job of being a stay at home mom to her 3 girls, and a stay at home wife to Blaine. Betty was always involved in her girls' activities, she was a girl scout leader for many years and volunteered at their schools. Once her children were older, she went back to work. She was a teacher at Something Special, and she owned an educational bookstore called Dream Keys for many years. She also worked as a Special Education Aide at Anthony Wayne High School. She held various retail jobs once her children were grown. She worked at Hickory Farms, B-Dalton & Montgomery Ward. She would often joke that if someone wanted a store to go out of business, they should have her work there. She also worked many years at Barnes & Noble.

Betty was an avid Genealogist and a member of Toledo Area Genealogy Society and Lucas County Chapter of Ohio Genealogist Society. She was very interested in history and was a member of the Greater Toledo Civil War Round Table and past member of the Waterville Historical Society. She began writing a book about her Great Great Grandfather's escape from Libby Prison, during the Civil War, that she never got to finish. She worked closely with Maritime Heritage Museum assisting with logbooks from the USS Essex, which her Grandfather served on.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Lloyd Jr, sister and best friend Jane Fellman, brother Dennis Dieball and her parents Dean and Dorothy Dieball. Left to cherish her memory are Jennifer (Michael) Herbster, Rebecca Lloyd, Sarah (Todd) Jimerson. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life Emma (Shaun) Brunt, Tyler Vanklingeren, Cole Jimerson, Lauren (Joe) Hays, Ally Jimerson and Great Grandchildren Landon, Hudson & Eloise.

The Family would like to thank her caregiver Teresa Scheub for providing such wonderful care all these years. Betty truly treasured her friendship and thought of her more as a friend than a caretaker. Also, thank you to all of the nurses and nurse aides at Toledo Hospital Ren-7 unit who provided amazing care for her during her stay. The family is very thankful for everyone at Hospice Northwest Ohio who were so kind with the entire family during these very difficult days.

The family will receive guests Friday, July 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Newcomer SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in her name to Community of Christ Church or Maritime Heritage Minnesota.
