Betty Louise (Halstead) Vicary entered the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Betty was born Katherine Ann Juhos to Coloman and Anna (Kozsir) Juhos in 1925. Her foster parents, Cecil and Mildred Halstead, adopted Betty and changed her name when she was still a toddler. Betty grew up on a farm, and reconnected with her birth family as a teenager. She always maintained loving ties with both her families.
Betty began working at OCF in 1960 and retired from there in 1987. She was a Girl Scout leader, and active in children's ministry at Oakdale EUB Church (Unity UM Church) for much of her adult life. She participated in Christian Business and Professional Women for many years as well. In midlife she and her husband, Kenny, traded in their bowling shoes for golfing attire. After retirement, they travelled extensively and wintered in Florida. Betty and Kenny had many friends and never tired of making new ones.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Lucy, both sets of parents, and all her siblings except one brother, Barry (Tina) Halstead. She is survived by her children: Kathy (Mark) Douglas, Ken (Trudy) Vicary, and son-in-law, Larry Napier; grandchildren: Larry Jay, Lois, Laura, Kendra, Karli, and Kara. She leaves behind several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren for whom she prayed daily.
Betty was an ardent student of the Bible and a woman of prayer even in her last months. Her joyful life was a testimony to others. She anticipated having her faith made sight, and so it has.
The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Westgate Chapel, 2500 Wilford Dr Toledo, OH. A celebration of Betty's life will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private with final arrangements by Newcomer Funeral Home. The family thanks the homecare staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their kindness and supportive care, especially Sharon and Lee Ann. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westgate Chapel or Unity UM Church in Betty's memory.
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints (Psalm 116:15).
