Betty Jo McGee, age 81, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at Ebeid Hospice Residence, Flower Hospital Campus. She was born on July 7, 1932 to Robert and Dorothy (Sprout) Rice in Gibsonburg, Ohio and lived many years in Elmore, Ohio. Betty Jo married Richard "Dick" McGee on July 29, 1948 and because she was only 16 years old when they married, she and Dick went to Maysville, Kentucky. This past July they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Betty's career was as a homemaker where she raised her 5 sons. In 1980, she and Dick built a log cabin in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. This has been their home for the past 33 years. During the winter months Betty Jo and Dick would live in Ellenton, Florida. Betty Jo will always be fondly remembered for being a great wife and mom, her love for flowers and watching the birds in her yard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Rice. Betty Jo is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Richard; sons, Jeffrey (Dawne), Mike, Kelly and Timothy McGee; daughter-in-law, Diane McGee; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation and services for Betty Jo will be private. The Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) assisted the family with professional services.
