Betty J. Stine, age 93, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Sunset Village. She was born on September 17, 1920 to Macey and Lillian (Ten-Eyck) Whitney in Toledo. Betty graduated from Waite High School in 1938 and went on to Warner Beauty School graduating in 1939. She owned and operated the Jenny Wren Beauty Shoppe on Starr Ave. for several years. Betty studied singing under Marian Richards and enjoyed music and singing very much. She married Thomas Dick Stine on August 5, 1942 and they were married 68 years before he passed on February 3, 2011.
Betty was active in Navarre School Mothers Club and PTA holding offices in both. She held the 3rd VP position of the Toledo City PTA, the highest position a female could hold at that time. Betty was also active in her church and taught several years in Bible School.
Betty was Mothers' March Coordinator for the March of Dimes many years. After retiring she and her husband enjoyed golfing and taking golf vacations in the southeast states with good friends, Laura and Terry Sevrence.
Betty was a faithful volunteer for ProMedica logging over 1000 hours at Caring Services Home Health and Toledo Hospital. She received the Volunteer Hero award for going above and beyond in her duties.
Betty's first love was her family and family gatherings. She adored all of her grandchildren and never missed a dance recital or sporting event. Betty will be deeply missed by all of them.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Marcia Sevrence and Claudia (Donald) Insalaco; grandchildren, Sean (Theresa) Sevrence, Michelle (Chris) Moses and Brett Insalaco; 5 great-grandchildren, Samantha (John) Potrezbowski, Spencer Sevrence, Ava and Layna Moses and Logan Sevrence. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Whitney; sisters-in-law, Eunice Whitney and Doris Stine; and brother-in-law, Sanford Stine.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 2 – 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
