Betty J. Loudenslager

Betty J. Loudenslager, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 17th, 2011 at her son's home in Temperance, Michigan. She was born May 17th, 1922 in Jerry City, Ohio to Dewey D. and Martha (Talmadge) Horner.

Valedictorian of her class, she graduated from Portage High School in 1940. After graduation, Betty moved to Toledo to attend Stautzenberger College. She became active in the Youth for Christ, and it was there she met her future husband, Miles A. Loudenslager. They were married on June 28th, 1947, at the Toledo Gospel Tabernacle, now known as the First Alliance Church. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage together.

During her lifetime, Betty worked at several different jobs, but mainly at the Dana Corporation and at Nopper Construction Company as a secretary. Betty was a faithful member of Lewis Avenue Baptist Church, Temperance, Michigan, for over 64 years. She served as church Treasurer, Janitor, Sunday School Teacher, Nursery worker, a leader in the Ladies Missionary Society, and was always willing to open up her home to entertain visiting missionaries and evangelists.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Miles on December 31st, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Dick) Spurling; sons, Tim (Bonnie) Loudenslager and Tom (Edie) Loudenslager; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and brothers, Robert (Violet) Horner of Ankeny, IA, Richard (Marilyn) Horner of Wauseon and Roger (Nan) Horner of Bowling Green. Betty is also survived by many nephews, nieces and dear friends.

The family will receive guests Tuesday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Avenue Baptist Church, 6320 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI, with visitation 1 hour prior. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Hobbins. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial Contributions are asked to be made to the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers with Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care and support they provided.
