Betty Jo Curtis

Betty Jo Curtis, age 84, of Erie, MI, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at home. She was born on September 14, 1939 to Leslie and Sarah (Pryor) Freels in Springfield, Tennessee. Betty married the love of her life, Lester Curtis on October 24, 1956 at a Chicken Hatchery in Dundee, MI. She then went on to be a homemaker and raise her family, something she was proud of. Throughout the years she also worked various retail jobs. Betty was an avid reader, enjoyed doing puzzles of all kinds, sewing and liked cardinals. She was a longtime member of the Sweet Adeline's with her sister Janice. Betty loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Her smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lester Curtis; brothers, Larry, Robert and James Freels; sister, Martha Murphy.

Left to cherish Betty's memory are her loving children, Christine Korzeniewski, Jeffrey (Patricia) Curtis and Vicky Curtis; grandchildren, Sarah Curtis, Kimberly (Phillip) Gettum, and Lisa Curtis; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Gettum; siblings, Ray Freels, Janice Wing and Leatha Muir; sister-in-law, Sandy Freels; brother-in-law, Henry (Ann) Curtis; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
