Bernice A. Veres, age 95, of Toledo, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Merit House. She was born on March 9, 1919 to Hipolit and Antionette (Sikorski) Ratkiewicz in Toledo. Bernice married Louis Veres on February 8, 1941 in Toledo. Bernice enjoyed cooking and baking classic Hungarian and Polish dishes for her family; fishing with her son and grandchildren and crocheting afghans. She also enjoyed helping her husband with the vegetable and fruit garden that they had in their backyard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; son, Richard Veres; grandson, Steve; three sisters and one brother. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Frank Veres, Sr.; ten grandchildren, including two very special grandsons, David Veres and Frank Veres, Jr. and seventeen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4105 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). There will be a brief prayer in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Noon in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, 4210 W. Central Ave. Friends are invited to join the family for Graveside Services, please meet at the front gates of the cemetery by Noon.
The family would like to specially thank the nurses and staff at the Merit House for the diligent care and support that they provided to Bernice while she resided there and also to Attorney Kevin McManus.
