Bernard "Bernie" Schmitt, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children, on September 3, 2024, in Greenville, MI. Born on June 20, 1942, Bernie lived a life defined by warmth, adventure, and a deep love for his family.

An avid adventurer, Bernie sought new experiences and enjoyed life to the fullest. Alongside his wife, Donna, he owned and operated over five McDonald’s franchises for more than 20 years. Together, they built a successful business and a lifetime of cherished memories. Married for 60 wonderful years, Bernie took great pride in watching his children grow into adults, and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Known for his boisterous laugh and quick wit, Bernie could fill any room with his laugh and magnetic personality, infusing even serious moments with humor. His playful spirit, filled with dad jokes and silly faces, is a legacy that lives on through his family, ensuring laughter continues for generations.

Bernie was a devoted husband to Donna Schmitt and a loving father to Tim Schmitt, Lena Mohyla, and Patti Schmitt. His love for his family came first, and everyone who knew him was cared for. He deeply valued his community, making a lasting impact on the lives of many. Even at 82, Bernie remained active on social media, staying connected with loved ones and encouraging those around him.

Family and friends may gather to pay their respects at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. Visitation will be held on September 16, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, 4210 Central Avenue, Toledo, OH 43606 following the chapel service.
