Bernadette M. "Bernie" Pugh, age 74, a longtime resident of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at SKLD of Perrysburg. She was born March 7, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio to Victor and Lottie (Kuszek) Czajkowski. Bernadette grew up in Toledo, graduating from Woodward High School in 1965. She went on to become a Senior Secretary serving several mayors and administrations with the City of Toledo, retiring in 1995 after 26 years. Bernadette was also a former member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Bernadette was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend, cherishing time spent with family and friends. She had a love for the outdoors and a green-thumb when it came to tending to her beautiful rose garden and manicured lawn. Holidays will always be remembered as special times, bringing family together and celebrating with delicious homemade favorites and polish delights, as well as great music and much laughter. In addition to the holidays, Bernadette loved to spoil the important people in her life, especially when it came to her great-niece and great-nephew, Kiley and Kane. Some of these many celebrations also included cheering on Notre Dame every Saturday afternoon during the fall.
Bernadette was a passionate reader of anything from romance to crime novels by such authors as Andrew Greeley, Dean Koontz and John Grisham. Many of her favorites were shared with her sister over the years. Bernadette didn't travel much but when her daughter moved to Tennessee the Smokey Mountains became a favorite place to visit.
In addition to her parents, Bernadette was also preceded in death by her sister, Janet Forrest. She is survived by her loving daughter, Christina "Chrissy" (Keith Mackey) Pugh; nephew, Jacob (Dawn) Forrest and their children Kiley and Kane who she thought of as grandchildren; nephew, Seth (Jennifer) Forrest and their children Ava and Carter; brother-in-law, David Forrest; Chrissy's father, William (Christine) Pugh, Jr.; many extended family members, dear friends and special caregivers at SKLD who all referred to her as "Bernie".
The family will receive guests Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 2-6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) where a Memorial Service will begin at 6:00 p.m.
