Bea Ann Briggs

February 18, 1955 — April 26, 2016

Bea Ann Briggs passed away April 26th at the age of 61.

She was born in Toledo Hospital February 18, 1955 to Beatrice Briggs (Snyder) and Robert Briggs, who preceded her in death. Bea is survived by her sister, Barbara Lee (Harry).

Born and raised in Maumee, she graduated from Maumee High School in 1973.

She excelled in academics and athletics. She played 4 years of basketball and volleyball.

She also played softball her junior and senior years after the sport was sanctioned.

Bea was inducted into the Maumee High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993 with the inaugural class and was the first woman inducted into the Hall of Fame.

She graduated from Adrian College in 1977 with a degree in Biology and teaching.

At Adrian she was a fixture on the Dean's list for academics and she continued her athletic accomplishments. Bea played basketball, volleyball, tennis and field hockey all four years. In tennis she won the Sue Little Award in both her junior and senior year which is awarded to the player who has contributed most to the team's success both on the court and in sportsmanship. Bea was the first woman to win the award in back to back seasons. She was inducted into Adrian College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.

Bea was a Science and Health teacher for Archbold Junior High School for 30 years, retiring in 2007.

She received the Ohio Science Teachers award.

Her passions included playing sports, jogging, wood working, recumbent bicycling and her beloved dogs (Mac, Willy, Babe, Buddy, Beau, Zoey, Tsar, Gracie, Quincy and Dolly plus numerous cats).

She and a friend rode their "Bents" from the Oregon Coast to the Maine Coast in 2009-2010.

She was always first to lend a helping hand to any who asked for it or needed it. Whether that was to make a cabinet or fix something, she was always willing and generous with her time.

She was a deacon of her church, St. John's Christian Church.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo (419-381-1900). Interment was held in Riverside Cemetery in Maumee.

Memorial Contributions may be made to: Great Smokie Mountains Association and United Way of Fulton County.
