Barbara (Felker) Whalen
Barbara "Bar" Whalen, age 93, formerly of Toledo, passed away April 14th, 2006 surrounded by her family at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, MI. Bar was born on June 12, 1912 to Hazel (Crawford) and Luther Felker. She was involved in numerous activities growing up, including achieving the status of a Golden Eaglet, running track, playing softball and competitive swimming. Bar was a longtime member of the Ashland Ave. Baptist Church. She attended Denison University where she joined the Chi Omega sorority and continued to be active in the alumni for many years. On August 9, 1934 she married Peter F. Whalen, III, a union that lasted over 50 years. After her family was raised she was employed by the Lion Store. She and her husband enjoyed many happy years traveling and vacationing in Florida. Bar loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She will be deeply missed.
Bar is survived by her daughter: Pam (Bill) Honn; daughter-in-law: Wilma Whalen; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and brother: John Felker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, son Peter Whalen IV, brother Crawford Felker, sister Martha Connolly and twin sister Beatrice Price.
Services will be for family members only. The Newcomer Funeral Home, (419-473-0300) assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to a charity of the donor's choice.
