Barbara M. McKay

Barbara M. McKay, affectionately known as Barb, passed away peacefully on October 8 2024, in Toledo, Ohio, at the age of 90. Born on April 19, 1934, in, Barb made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing. She was a devoted nurse aide at The Toledo Hospital for ten years, embodying compassion and dedication throughout her career. Following her retirement, Barb embraced her role as a loving wife, mother, and caregiver, pouring her heart and soul into her family.

As a person, Barb was characterized by her outgoing nature, humility, and a love that knew no bounds. She had a profound faith in God that guided her life, and she was known for radiating happiness to all she encountered. Her legacy includes cherished memories of family vacations and holiday gatherings, moments that brought her family closer. Barb shared a special bond with her sister, Lois Fetterly, with whom she was the best of friends.

Barb's commitment to her church was evident as she served as a lead choir member at Shelton Park Church of God, where her beautiful spirit resonated through her music and faith.

She is survived by her son, Paul McKay; her grandson, Benjamin McKay; sister, Bonnie Stokes; her great niece, Bonnie Fetterly; her nieces, Laura Schultz and Lillian Martin; and a host of extended family and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Barb is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James McKay, as well as her sons Donald McKay, Timothy McKay, Russell McKay, sisters, Mildred Barry, Ruth Walker, and Lois Fetterly. They will be forever remembered alongside her—with deep love and affection.

Visitation will be held on October 18, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, leading into a graveside service at Restlawn Memorial Park, 3665 Genoa Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551, at 3:30 PM.

Barbara M. McKay will be remembered not only for her warmth and vibrancy but also for the enduring love she has left behind in the hearts of her family and friends. Her spirit will continue to shine through all those she loved and who loved her in return.
