Barbara A. Hatton, affectionately known as "RedHead," passed away on August 26, 2024, in Toledo, Ohio, at the age of 75. Born on September 25, 1948, Barbara was a beacon of warmth and love, touched by the vibrant threads of family life and a devoted career that spanned more than three decades.
For over 30 years, Barbara dedicated herself to the noble profession of nursing at Saint Vincent Hospital, providing care and compassion to patients and their families alike. Her commitment to her work was only matched by her devotion to her own family and the rich tapestry of relationships she cultivated throughout her life.
Barbara's spirit was animated by her love for family gatherings, she particularly cherished her "Sunday morning coffees" shared with those she held dear. Every Tuesday, Barb's family would gather for brunch at different restaurants, she was responsible for coordinating these every Tuesday, she always looked forward to it. Her personality radiated love and kindness, making her a cherished figure among family, friends, and community members. Barbara spent countless joyful hours playing cards, engaging in spirited competition within a bowling league where she first met her husband, Bruce Hatton, with whom she shared many delightful moments. Her interests also led her to embrace the vibrancy of local life, frequenting the "Internet Cafe," along with enjoying excursions to the casino and participating in bingo nights.
While Barbara's journey through life was marked by her numerous passions, it was her role as a matriarch that brought her the greatest joy. A devoted mother, she is survived by her children: Ronald (Tonia) Hammersmith, Lori (James) Kelly, and Jodi (Todd) Barnhart and step-son, Randy Hatton. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Kayla, Kendra, Brooklyn, Brittany, Nathan, Shelby, Richie, Shawn, Elisa, Stephanie, Amanda and Ryan— as well as her anticipation of welcoming three more great-grandchildren into the fold.
The family ties forged by Barbara are intertwined with memories of her siblings: Diane Youngston, Bonnie Fischer, Janice Lang, Joan Goodspeed, Alfred Burkhardt Jr, David Burkhardt, Angela Bohnsack, and Kay Chirgott, who will remember her with love and affection.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Hatton, who stood by her side in life's journey, as well as her parents, Alfred and Delora Burkhardt, and her brothers, Douglas and Gary. The bonds formed with her stepson, Richie, further enriched her life, even as he rests in peace.
